We all break laws at some point in time (ie. Jay Walking, littering, speeding, etc...). But the severity differs.

Buying stolen goods and copying copyrighted materials off the internet are both theft. You have taken someone else's property without paying for it.

I don't understand how otherwise upstanding citizens could purchase stolen goods and not only fail to feel guilt, but in many cases brag about the bargain they got. Be real, you have benefited at someone else's expense.

When it comes to music and Software, people justify illegal copying since there is no physical property involved. They fail to realize the value of intellectual property.

Bill,

I've defended myself twice. Lost both times, but was once told by the judge I should have been an attorney.

Yeah but in the case of speeding (say 70 in a 55) doesn't the "everybody's doing it" or "just keeping up with traffic" defense hold up? Don't the cops turn a blind eye most times? (Why do I feel a ticket coming on if I keep talking about this?)

So, is there ever an acceptable defense for speeding when you get to court? Is that why we lose every time on that one? Meanwhile, have you ever tried to maintain 55 in our cars? Almost impossible (without cruise control). I really hate having all this power and not being able to use it without fear of getting caught. Kyras, do you still want to buy my car? Is it an odds game?
