I own about 15 mutual funds...more than I should but very diversified...most of them are VANGUARD, a great company. Without getting too complex, I would invest 30-40 % in their TOTAL BOND fund and the other 70-60% in their TOTAL STOCK MKT fund.

Tenblade, I'd only go to a financial advisor recommended by a dearest friend, and even then I probably wouldn't. I'm convinced with a small amount of research you can make informed decisions about your investing. I'm talking about mutual funds.
Visit the Vanguard web site, maybe the Motley Fools. "The Wealthy Barber" is another classic, simple investment book and well worth a read.
I "own" a house. Takes more time and upkeep than I care to spend. However, a string of rude apartment neighbors, made apt living too much for me to take. I've read that with all the associated costs of buying, maintaining, and selling a house, it takes about five years to reach the break even point. A BROAD generalization but something to consider.
Good luck.
