Growing up, I can remember having my feet measured in shoe stores with one of the Brannock Foot-Measuring Devices as shown in the photo.

Surely, there must be others here in Vintage who also remember that foot measuring device.

The link isn't working for me but Sue I'm pretty sure I know what you are talking about. I always thought it was cool when I was a kid because it looked like a big gas pedal!

Sue, they have one available to use in the shoe department at our Meijer's store. I just can't get anyone to hold my ankle.

Dave, we often go grocery shopping at Meijer here, but almost never look in the shoe department. Next time we go to Meijer, I will look for the measuring device.

I never understood why those devices said I was a size 6-1/2. I couldn't wear any shoe that small. I've always had wide feet but those things read about 2 sizes smaller than what I wore.

I have not used one of those devices for a very long time.

Patty, I am wondering if you were using the men’s version rather than the women’s version.

A men’s size 6.5 would be about a women’s size 8.

Could that be the situation?

But do you remember the fluoroscope that they used to look at your foot while it was in the new shoe? Basically an X-ray!

I bought a pair of Harley Davidson motorcycle boots with the logo that I really liked but I could never get comfortable with wearing them. I read somewhere I should try walking into a lake to really soak them good and then wear them as they were drying. It helped some but not enough. I ended up giving them to a friend who had a Harley and he loved them!

Yes! I remember that, too!

(I almost mentioned it.)
