Sounds like you guys are 'nesters' like me.

Lainey, 315K and 418k would not get you a decent house in this town, not even a fixer upper. I don’t know how people can afford homes at the prices they sell for in Northern California but they keep selling.

I know. I used to watch the HGTV House Hunters show. I used to be amazed at prices on the left coast. Years ago, 500K for a house that was on a small lot and needed a ton of work.....Houses in areas closer to Boston are way pricier than our area. Many are much larger homes, as well....
The train to Boston is coming to our area soon. That is likely going to push up the housing prices even more and pricing young people and renters out of the market.

PS we paid $64K in 1985. Six months later the houses were up $30K. It's gone up and down as real estate does, but still crazy $ for sure!

We are just like you and Rick, they could offer me triple what the going rate is today and I wouldn't consider moving. This is a perfect sized house and location for our requirements and Donna would be lost without the yard and gardens. I'd be happy if there was only 1/2 the gardens to mow around and we both hate the deep ditch at the road in front, which never ever has any water in it. But no house is perfect. Housing values here have never been crazy like either of the two coasts.

Here's a sample, just the first one I blindly picked. 4 bedroom, 3 bath, 5k sq ft, etc. Slightly over $500k.

That's a steal of a price for that home, but the US funds would add to the cost if I had to go and buy it, lol, damn , I think homes in the US are still relatively affordable compared to our region.

That home in Toronto would be $2-3 million, but you would never find that much land around it either, that is a nicely situated home.

I see they lowered the price on that one, Dave. That house would certainly be $700+ around here, even more if it was situated close to the coast, and/or Boston.

I'm with Lainey, I should downsize but I have no idea where I'd go.

Me too Jerry. Our home isn't overly large - only 2000 square feet, but there are only three of us, and our son should be moving out some day soon. I've lived in the same area for 56 years, we need to move somewhere else and start enjoying life before my number comes up in the lottery of life. Losing a sibling in recent weeks has given me a different outlook on life, a real wake-up call to be honest.

Where do we go ? We like warmer weather, that is all I know right now. Until recent times I would have loved Florida, but my wife has roots in Portugal, so she likes the idea of moving to Portugal.

Move to Cascais, near Lisbon. Traveled there some years ago. Lovely area.

You need more garage less house! Our house is pretty small, compared to yours and some of the others here. Still, I can't imagine moving to a smaller one, or to a condo. Always subject to change as life can change on a dime.....
