Default Shingles

Lucky me.

Right near the end of my trip with +1 Sue to Louisville, I started having abdominal pains. The pains wouldn't go away, so I went to the doctor. He said I have classical signs of shingles. He prescribed an antiviral medicine (valacylovir).

My rash has spread now around the right side of my back and waist, but hasn't spread beyond that. The abdominal pain at times is very sharp. I have been told that the rash and pains will go away in 2-3 weeks (or more?). I still go to work, but am moving about half-speed. While I am not infectious, I have shied away from contact with my grandkids for now.

I hope this won't affect our plans for Spring Fling.

I had shingles a couple/years ago. The rash I had was on the left side of my neck and the pain wasn't too bad, but it totally wiped me out. Taking the AV will help make the pain go away more quickly I am told.

I feel for you. I had it about 3 years ago. Mine was in the least desirable area for a male.
Hang in there. Best wishes.

My father in law used to get outbreaks now and then and he always said how much discomfort he was in. I sure hope you get better soon Dennis, I know it's nothing I would want to have.

I'm considering taking the newish innoculation for shingles....talked with my doc at last visit: it's about $125 and not usually covered by insurance

I've had a weeks-long bout with an itchy rash...like after a bad sunburn on back/arms/legs....probably a reaction to an Rx that I stopped taking a MONTH ago. Now using a super-strong prescription steroid cream 2x per day....seems to slowly be handling it. This has convinced me that I WILL be getting that shot soon.....

Bummer, Dennis. I've never know much about shingles. I sure hope you feel up to the Spring Fling.
