Senic Route from MD to Gettysburg
My girlfriend and I are going to take a day and go up to Gettysburg (as part of my historic senic trip plan). Can anyone tell me a nice route between MD (between Baltimore and DC) and Gettysburg?
If we did want to stay the night are there any nice places to stay?
thanks.

Try this route, pretty straightforward and not interstate:

Google maps puts it at around 1.5 hours.

Unless you have already been to Gettysburg 300 times (like some folks on this website), you can certainly spend an overnight in the G-burg area. There are B&B's in several towns to the east, including New Oxford, East Berlin and Hanover itself....do a search on Google to locate.

Unfortunately, I can't remember all the really nice back roads because they are not numbered. But, I might suggest MD 75 off I-70 to Old Annapolis Rd (by Liganore high school) go west to Mt Pleasant and beyond to 194 to Woodsboro, then 500 something to Thurmont, then either directly on 491? to Fort Ritchie or 71 through Catoctin Mtn Park (perhaps including the loop to Camp David) then just outside the park take a right that will take you again to 471. Turn right at Fort Ritchie and take PA backroads toward Gettysburg. Not far away in MD down 71 are Harmony and Hollow roads which are curvy, up and down favorite motocycle strafers. Many other like roads in the northern parts of Frederick County. Enjoy

PAs2k: I didn't know but am delighted. I spent near 17 years riding those and other roads in the area, and I'll be looking forward to it again. Then, there was Harmony Road....... Looking forward to it. Thanks.

PaS2K: Very possible because your hotel was in Hagerstown. It's between US 40 and MD 75 east of Hagerstown. Quite a few others like that in the area and never any "regulatores". Sorry I had to miss a Fall Colors in my old Neighborhood. See you in Gettysburg. Been to the Cozy Inn in Thurmont?
