Nah, its what you do when you can't afford the real thing. Heck, some I paid as much as $1 and some $200 but I only bought the ones that were important to me....
except for the 1/64th scale - that was a one-time thing; I intended to convert them to Christmas ornaments to hang on a Christmas tree but I never got that far.

Awesome collection. Kinda a drag to dust, no? My son has a ton of Amiibos he's collected. They are Nintendo toys with built-in chips, for game ad-ons. Even in a display cab, they collect dust like a magnet.

Dusting is not an issue in a cabinet. The trick is to tightly seal around the doors. I have two large curio cabinets and a Timex watch cabinet and all three are sealed tight but not permanently. An annual dusting of the collection is quick and easy. Taking them all out to clean the glass does take time. Here's a photo from years back showing one them packed in.

And, here is that same cabinet today after being selective on what I wanted to show.

The 1/64 collection is not in a cabinet but a quick sweep with a duster takes care of them.

This is my Timex cabinet which is mainly all MG related stuff. At one time I had a very rare collection of MG models, sold them all to a fellow collector and made enough profit to buy my daughter her first used car.

I've got around 60-70 1:18 scale cars, my grandmother got me started collecting them about 30 years ago when she used to get me them for my birthday.

Most are Burago, AutoArt, Maisto, but I have a few Exoto, and CMC ones too. My most expensive one is a CMC 1:18 Maserati car carrier, like this - https://www.ebay.com/itm/CMC-1-18-fi...AAAOSw1~Ncq5p3

Buying the toy version is definitely cheaper than the real thing, plus they take up a lot less room

^^^ I agree! Mine are mounted in plexiglass on the walls of my office; grouped partially historically, and/or by car brands and types. Jags, Ferraris, Mercedes, BMW, sports cars, muscle cars, etc. They are of the major diecast brands. Many are 1/18, but many are 1/24 and quite a few are 1/43 scale. You can't drive them, but the collection never gets old or boring.

Here are a few pics ( not very clear). These are mostly early post war Germans from when I was a teenager living in Germany.

I actually have a few hundred of the models... Collected over years. Some even have windows that crank up and down..

It's a nice way to document the history of the gasoline powered automobile starting with the 1896 1- cylinder Benz...

I can see why you didn't take a picture - it is a safe isn't it?

Wow Jim, thanks for posting. I knew you had a collection - impressive. Boy and their toys. Like you, I never get tired of mine, especially the cars that hold special meaning to me.

I have one tiny collection of memorabilia stored in plastic boxes like yours.
