About 30 years ago I was involved in Proposal effort to do the adaptive mirror array of the Keck telescope on Mauna Kea.

sadly we didn't win the work as I was really looing forward to spending a few months on integration.
It would have been a kick-ass design effort.

A few months on the Big Island, would have been nice! Especially, getting paid.

Four 8-meter telescopes in array at high altitude will provide great optical Astronomical research in the southern hemisphere. I've done quite a lot of environmental work for the Carnegie Institute in California. When I first went to work for them they were surprised to learn that I knew about Las Campanis.

Being in the Andes they also provide a detailed look at a very different set of stars, not entirely but close.

The more I think about this I'd love to know how they will do the data integration, algorithmically speaking.
