I'm there with you. I'm told by a friend that having an account on Facebook is grounds for revocation of your 'man-card'.

Not true .

I agree, I thought it was stupid...and still do sometimes. But it was nice for Heather and me when she was still living in Jersey. And it has connected me with friends from school that I probably wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

Lainey, Maury...I'll find ya on there .

Maury,

I'm not on Facebook personally, but I think there are some reasons why I could have a presence on there.

I'm on the board of our local darts league and run a charity event through the dart league to benefit the Make A Wish Foundation each year.

Setting up an account for that event would give me a way to reach out to people who I might not otherwise get a hold of, or people connected to people, who might make a donation, maybe have something I can use, buy a raffle ticket, etc... My audience is limited to 150 people in my league, friends and family and the surrounding leagues. Having a presence on Facebook (not just our league site) would let this spread further than I can do myself and probably benefit the charity much more than I can.

I think your business is similar. Friends of your company could help you with the word of mouth, would get you links to pictures from your friends pages that use your products, etc... (I think thats how it could work?)

Right answer!

I have very occasionally been tempted to create a name like Joe Fabeets just so I can see the pictures that other friends have posted. But not so tempted that I actually do it.

Good to know I'm one the 'young' thinking vintage and keeping up with the youngsters.

I don't do Facebook or any of that stuff. It's bad enough, the time I'm on S2ki and playing with photos. I don't need anymore computer distractions.

For those who have kids on Facebook/MySpace, be sure to tell them not to post anything in the *least* bit controversial (pics, etc). Employers routinely look at those sites when deciding whether to hire someone. Plus, once it's out there, it never goes away.
