No, Dave, I did not read the article. My disagreement is with you so I don't care about the links. You are now talking about a "heavy user" although you didn't mention that before. Most things that people do to excess will cause major problems in their lives, and maybe even cancer. You're a beer drinker but I'm sure you have control over it. I had a neighbor growing up, who drank beer until it killed him. Just as facebook isn't the problem, it's the person who goes overboard with something that's the problem.
Hmm, that being said, I seem to have a bad addiction...

Do you suppose too many S2000s or too many drives is bad for you?

Be sure to practice safe surfing on there - always use a mouse pad. You don't want to catch a cyber STD or virtual VD.

Haven't thought of that.

for Facebook.

I think a few of you folks are now on there?

I use it a little more than I did when I started this thread, but still don't use applications or play any games.

What about you all?

BTW, the founder of Facebook has been named "Person of the Year" by Time

The young man certainly has created a whole new way for people to connect/stay in touch with family/friends.
I opened an account and have never gone back to see what, if anything, happened to it. In the past six months I have learned quite a bit about how facebook pages can be used against people in a court of law, the work place, and in personal situations. Fortunately I was not on the receiving end of any of these "lessons." Some people were made to look pretty stupid and it cost them dearly. Be careful what you post and be careful who you friend. Today's friend could be tomorrow's employer or adversary.

I only "friend" family, and people I actually know. I also use an assumed name.

I hope I have my settings set correctly as far as privacy.

Some young people really post stupid things and pictures that should not be shared with the world. Think future employment, as you mentioned.

Thought this would be an interesting article to share.

http://www.newsweek.com/2010/12/28/social-...going-gray.html

The age group that has seen the fastest growth in social network use between 2008 and 2010 was the 55 to 64 crowd, according to a new survey from Pew Research. Two years ago, just 9% of this demographic said they used social networks, but by 2010, that amount has skyrocketed to 43%.

Yeah, I think most of us older folks on facebook joined to connect with our kids. Another quote from the article, "However, if much of that growth is coming from older Americans, it does raise one important question: Will the 18-year-olds who first joined these sites now be the first to leave as they get invaded by their parents and grandparents?" I wonder about that one.
