This will be post 74 and there were 651 views just before I posted this.

If you look at the S2000 Vintage Owners main page, where it lists all the thread in Vintage, you'll see at the top a heading that says Replies, one that says Views and then one that says Last Action, listing the last poster on that thread.

Duh. But I guess I was partly right -- you count, but not from the top like I have been.

(Although I don't know, maybe you do count from the top...or side. I guess it depends on your positional preferences...)
