Rocket's Situation

I do not like to borrow money for a depreciating asset. Debt, especially at a young age, is an albatross around your neck.
If you're investing in your future -- college, voc. training, etc., that's where your money should be going.
All that notwithstanding, I would've worried my butt off if I'd had a car like the S2000 at too young an age. Better to have something reasonable and practical, unless you have the means to have the S2000 as a second car. Oh, and let's not talk about insurance for a young S2000 driver...

I refuse to sacrifice education for the sake of a car, to me that's rediculous. As far as all other unnessicary expenses are concerned however, this is the sole reason I save my money. For those who don't know I'm going into my senior year of HS. I am one of few ppl my age that has a job locally due to the lack of opportunity around the famed OH rt26 drive (great driving, although not much else is great lol). There are many contributing factors to my financial capabilities. Obviously one cannot afford an S on a grocery store salary, but thanks to other contributing factors (all of which are legal I might add ) I should be making about $850 a month until my emancipation next June. This and this alone is why I consider an S, I know sacrifices have to be made, and I know that some are not worth making. I understand that there is no shame in owning the previously mentioned cars, the S is just a cut above the rest, and seemingly designed exactly to fit my wants. lol. Thank you for all of your input and help thusfar, it really is appeciated.
Edit: Insurance should cost me $80 a month, with the car titled and insured in my momma name lol, i would also have access to a beater car to drive when neccesary.

Please understand that the reason, aside from the fact that this is Vintage and we like to discuss things, that we are responding to you like we are is simply because those of us who met you on the drive were very impressed with you. We are hoping to share the benefit of our own experience with you. We want the best for you.
As you begin to look for a car, and sort things out, please keep us informed within this thread. We will share our knowledge and experience with you. You in turn can take as much or as little of it as you choose.
Good luck.

My final advice is two-fold. Make prudent, smart, informed choices, but don't let anyone take away your dreams. This is what America is all about. Reach higher than everyone else.

Rocket,
Sam (you rode in his white) is hosting an event this Saturday. If you have the time and transportation, you should join us for the car show after the drive.

Rocket, Rob is right on when he says how impressed we all were with you after meeting with you this Sat. With that kind on head on your shoulders, I know you'll make the right decision for you. We're still trying to figure out where Dad's going to put his Vettes and other cars.
