Liked him in Maverick and the Rockford files. Liked his Polaroid commercials with Maryette Hartley. One of my favorite actors.

James Garner, rest in peace.

As a friend said as we walked out of Grand Prix, "Kinda hard to see Garner as anything but Maverick" but he did a hell of a job as a race car driver.

As a working class guy I always admired Garner: star of both TV and movies; apparently a truly talented driver; won two lawsuits against his employers; and apparently a very humble guy. I saw a tv special about the making of Grand Prix. They (actors and professional drivers) would film a race scene following a script; then they would turn around and drive the course backwards to the starting point with no script. Garner was rather proud that he could keep up with the pros in the unscripted driving. Also, from what I understand, the producers brought in stunt drivers for early Rockford episodes; they sent them home because Garner could drive better.

To me he was an actor who raced and loved it. And I can relate... except I can't act and I never got the chance to race like he did. RIP James.

When you get the chance, watch the two "support your local ...." films. He was an excellent comedian as well.
