The reunion thread
#21
I did not go to the two reunions my hs class has had. I remain connected with a couple of friends I had from hs and I'm close to one of them. I have no interest as I was a bit of nerd in school, kept my head in a book and my former sweetheart was killed in viet nam. I want no more reminders of those days.

I made it to my 20th reunion.
My first recollection is the experience of walking into the hotel and thinking that there must be a wedding reception going on in one of hte other rooms.
It was the only rationalization for why all these old people were there.
Both my wife and I aged rather gracefully. most of my classmates did not.
But the nice folks were still nice, the jerks were still jerks.
it was a bit surprising to see that one of my really quiet and shy homeroom classmate had come out of her shell, and in doing so fully embraced the trailer park theme.
She showed up in stilettos, leather pants, and low cut, tight fitting, cheetah print rayon top.
I might think about the 40th.

There were 67 students in my class of 67 and I knew them all. Keep up with a few and enjoy the reunions, although the last one was maybe the 30th. No 40th, but #50 will be in 4 years.(if we have one) The last one I attended, all the girls were fat, and I mean almost every one of them. Most the guys were not. Never figured that one out.
One shy, skinny, acned, quiet guy in school is now a blond, buff surfer dude, biggest surprise there. It was worth going just to see the change in that one guy.
Lainey, go to yours. Show your pictures, show your S, and if it's no fun, show them your back as you leave.

My graduating class had 675 students (the hs had over 2k). Was only close to a very few. I remember thinking the night of graduation that once I left that place I'd never go back. It wasn't that I hated it, I really liked my classes, etc., I just wasn't very social. I had things to do, people to see, places to go, and reliving the high school experience just wasn't one of them. I worked on the hs newspaper, played basketball, volleyball, was in a lot of clubs, etc., but when I finished high school, I finished. My best friend from hs went to the last reunion (she begged me to go, but nope). She reported that everyone was about the same as they were in school. There were little groups that were still the little groups, etc. and that was about it. Many of the people that I cared for have died and many of my classmates died in Viet Nam, so I feel I'm not missing anything.

I'm with Gene: Go. If it sucks, then leave. Simple as that.
If you don't go, then you'll wonder about it. If you do go, then you'll know. And that will make the decision for the next one that much easier.
