Retirement plan status
#521
I retired in 2007. I lasted 2 months before I became bored to death and started climbing the walls. I am not big on traveling or doing volunteer work If I work I want to be paid for it. So, I started a detailing business out of my home. It started off slow until I got some training and I found a great supplier whose website had videos of every phase of professional detailing and the products they recommend. I even went to a 3 day training seminar they invited me to and learned a lot about detailing, I was recently voted favorite dealer in our county. The business has grown beyond my expectations and I get to work on some very cool cars as well as everyday cars and trucks. I work out of my 3 car garage which has heat, a/c, sound system, big screen tv and fridge. I detailed a 2023 C8 Corvette Stingray R (RacingEdition) today. What a friggin ride. I picked it up and returned it. I will be 80 in 2 weeks and have no plans of retiring because I am having too much fun.

That's a great story Ray. I've been retired 23 years and never made a cent after - - but I can spend it. I'm not big on travel or volunteer work either. Hobbies kept me busy, so I never got bored until recently when physical issues started limiting what I can do with cars, yard work, house improvements, etc.

6 years for Rick 5 years for me. Don't miss work one little bit. We have our routines and we like them. I have days when I get a little bored, but not enough to make me seek out employment of any kind.
Wish I could find a better outlet to sell my photos, but I haven't really spent any time looking into that.
Right now our calendar looks like "old people" calendar. Lots of medical appointments, dentists, eyes, etc. Usual first of the year tune ups.

I enjoyed washing and waxing cars up until about my later 50s. It starts to hurt now days before I get to the detail spray. .

I haven't lost the desire to create things and solve problems. If anything it has gotten more desirable.
In fact there is a company nearby called Commonwealth Fusion which is designing nuclear reactors for Fusion technology.
They have some slots open but when I looked at the descriptions it just sounded more like work.
I'd like to just go in, hang around and listen to the smart guys talk then occasionally ask stupid questions.
I'm actually remarkably good at that.
It is amazing how a well placed stupid question can turn over the apple cart.
A typical response is everyone sits back in their chairs and finally somebody says " well shit, tell me why are you here again?"
My perfect job title would be Sr Principal PITA.
