Yeah, even I have done it . . . back when I was allowed to be on a ladder.

I use to install garage doors part time and I would always try to talk people out of stretch springs whenever possible. I had pictures of what could happen when the cable would break and come whipping out!

Springs under pressure and chainsaws are two things I stay away from!

Springs are easy to work with, that is if you can think a little.
example, put the garage door up so the spring is relaxed.
I happened to be standing in my garage when one of the door springs decided to cross the critical fatigue stage and snap.
Now some peoples sphincter may have failed them in that sort of moment. I go the away, mine clenched so tight it could have made diamonds.
I learned why you run that safety cable through the center of the spring.

I popped into my new office today and once again found the heat blasting away, they had it set to run a fixed temp 24/7 and no one there. The same thing as last weekend when I was there, so I made plans to buy a new programmable thermostat which I installed today. Most staff will be gone daily by 6 pm so the heat and a/c will turn down when no one is there, and will return to set temps at 6 am ahead of anyone arriving to work. I've been involved in two businesses where people just don't care about energy efficiency HVAC operation for the office. It is crazy as that is an important part of the properties we operate, but yet people don't think about it for our own premises the same way.

Yeah that is an issue for sure. I find workers will change the settings. They often hit the hold feature, and I tell them just to use the temporary setting so it will eventually return to the scheduled program by end of day if they need a bump in temperature for any specific reason. They just don't listen or get it though. Working with a bunch of older women is tricky when it comes to preferred temps.

I prefer thermostats that have passwords to protect them.
