I am having a rain gutter replaced on our front porch. It's under two large carrot woods & I'm thinking of using a gutter guard. Anyone have them and how well do they work? I'm thinking of snap in ones so I can still access the gutter.

I have gutter guards everywhere we have gutters. Once installed I've never had any reason to remove them. Most were installed by a company that specializes in them. With 80 foot trees all around my house they were a must. One way to clean them is to open one end and flush them out with a hose. I don't recall doing that but I may have once. I do clean the tops of the lower ones with a hand held leaf blower while on the roof; but the main reason is to remove broken branches that can cause ice dams in the winter. The ones on top of the 2nd floor have never been touched and no issues.

I have cheap ones from Home Depot and the work great. Living next to a woods I have yet to clean a gutter!

ah but do the gutter guards work with pine needles?

We had Gutter Helment guards installed some 15 years ago, and we live in a very wooded area. So far, they have performed very well. They do come with a guarantee (at least ours did) that if they ever get clogged, they will come out and clear the problem. We had that done once and only one was clogged. These are not a do-it-yourself project, though.
As for Jerry's question, I can't answer that as we have no pine trees in the area. We do have those %$&%$%g oak "helicopters" but they are not a problem.
YMMV, of course.

We have a number of mature white pine trees around our property. The wind can carry them quite far and they are about 4-5 inches long.
They get everywhere and being very long and slender they sip into little holes very effectively.
I suspect we would quickly have a meshful of pine needles. It's why I have never bothered with gutter guards.

Being in a one floor bungalow I can flush out my eavestrough from the ground using a long attachment with an angled nozzle on my garden hose. After my roof was replaced I flushed a bunch of shingle granules and nails.
