We finally got started on the second fireplace installation. This one is in the family room, adjacent to the kitchen where the television is. I still have a lot of mudding, sanding and texture work to do, so I'll post more pictures when it's finished.

'Ol gas bessy. I'm sure in her day, (15 years ago) she was the pride of the neighborhood, but she's gotta go.

Out with the old...

In with the new. We decided to raise it 6" off the floor, but we still have to figure out what to do with the old hearth outline. We're thinking granite tile at this point.(I'm not re-doing the hardwood floor)

I put the first coat of tape and mud on this afternoon. I put it on heavy in a few spots, so I can't start sanding until tomorrow.

Thanks, pepper...they gave me a 6" X 6" piece of the slab to bring home, so now I have an actual sample rather than a pic. It looks just wonderful with the floor tile. It's interesting that the granite is mined in Brazil and sent to Italy for cutting of the slabs and polishing (however they do that). Pretty amazing. That little sample is really heavy, so I can only imagine how heavy the countertops will be.

While I was at the granite place, I also saw what I want for the backsplash. A gorgeous rose tinged ceramic tile (not shiny, looks like old stone) that will be put on two walls (up to the cabinets) where the sink and cooktop will be. Diamond shaped design with 1.5" X 1.5" square pieces of the granite imbedded. Only things left to pick out are the ceiling light fixture and the sink faucet.

The +1 took pics of everything, so I will post more soon.

Last night, I tried to upload some more pics of samples and how the inside of the cabinets will look, but the gallery only loaded one pic. Not sure what is going on. Anywho...here's the one that was successful. MsP and Daniel, the designer. He's very European and a very talented architect/designer. Peeps from all over come to him.

I didn't get that friendly with the guys at Home Depot - maybe that's where I made my mistake.

Teehee...thanks! I'm still waiting for him to start kissing Vito. Could come at any time. He is a very demonstrative guy.

OK...finally got more pics to upload. Here are some examples of what will be in the kitchen. The dishwasher has the handle on it and the cabinet front similar to what I picked out, except in antique white. Very traditional cabinet exteriors, but the interiors are another story as you can see. The splashback design pictured is the one I plan to use. The granite sample is below the tiles for the splashback. There will be granite inserts as you see in the pic. The granite pic is the actual slab I bought. It's very large!
