Coincidently the very same '63 Ferrari California used in Ferris Beulers Day Off was for sale in the Mecum auction in Monterey.

Along these lines of buying a car for as an investment. I think that buying a Ford GT could be a good one. Although, I have not been able to convince the "Plant Pixie" of that. Recently our new neighbor invited me over to his "Man Cave" for a cook out and one of his RC Pilot buddies that is also a "motor head" revealed that he had bought one in 2006 and that since he sold it, the ones on the market have appreciated $100K over the last few years.

I could be wrong as I am pretty much known as "King Exlax" ( the opposite of King Midas if you get my drift) when it comes to investing. But, I think that the Ford GT will be a collectable that will appreciate substantially over the next decade or score.

Not if the guys on Top Gear influence things. In last nights show it was on the list of 'worst' cars. A very interesting show BTW..... its always fun to see a show that bashes some of these super cars for their flaws.

I don't know that I'd ever pay that much money for a car no matter how rich I was, but I have to admit that car is absolutely beautiful. It looks exactly the way a sports car/roadster should look. I really think that the people designing Ferrari's today need to take a look back 40 or 50 years and rediscover what good design actually is.

I really wonder if cars in general are good investments. I think that they're really a lot like art. You'd better love it because you might have to look at it for a long, long time waiting for it to appreciate.

Certain cars, like this Ferrari, do appreciate to astounding amounts, but in general, the expense of keeping a car that long probably eats up the appreciation. And, it's hard to know which car is going to become highly valued and which won't.

I watched that show and I was a bit surprised but then again, one cannot over look the fact that the design is from the Mid 60's and automotive technology has come along way since then.

On the other hand. I wonder if they are influencing the market place because they want to buy one?

I would venture to say that the most valuable cars in the world would be a Mercedes-Benz 300SLR. Estimates place them at $50M but I suspect they would surpass that.

I have a friend who has been selling and fixing vintage Ferrari's for a long time and I remember one time we were talking about the market and he told me he had another dealer call him and he had a customer looking for a gto and the guy was commited to spending over 30 million dollars for it. I believe the number of Gto's left is 39 and my friend is familiar with most of the cars and none of the owners wanted to sell so it all comes down to supply and demand.
