Monaco was typical (European) F1 silliness. Why do they continue to race on tracks where there is zero chance of actually have a real race.
Indy, on the other hand was great racing with real honest-to-goodness passing.
Newgarden showed that he understood how to use strategy to win.

yesterday's observation.
The grandeur and slender of the Monaca parade is hard to match.
Perhaps Hamilton's idea of a mandatory 2 stopper makes sense.
They did televise two passes I think so it is possible but it's sort of like winning a lottery.
I think it would be an awesome track for carting.
as for Indy,. Starting to look like a soccer game. tactics tactics tactics.
199 laps are the passing of the ball for the final shot on the 200 lap.
just my humble opinion, from a cosmetic standpoint the indy cars are fugly.

Like I said, carts.
it looks like they are racing on space saver spares a current F1 car would have to carry.
2 rears and a front might the same width as a current rear.
The current cars are much much safer. It took a substantial set of attachments to drive those cars fast.
getting back to carts, I would love to see a 10 lap race around the Monaco track with the current field of F1 drivers.

A neighbor mentioned to me there was a race today in Detroit . . . he wasn't sure if it was Indycar or F1. No matter. I did tape it but what a waste of time. No place to pass. So many minor wrecks I stop counting. I hate street races. Herta screwed up once again and the ice man won once again. Streets of Detroit or Belle Isle, I wouldn't waste my time going to either . . . and years past I have been to both, as F1 and Indycar, and Detroit and Belle Isle, and never again for either one.

I finally got a chance to watch Monaco on the DVR. FF through the pre-race stuff, watched the first lap, and stopped (i hadn't seen any video of it yet). I knew there was almost no passing and who the winner was, so no sense in watching them drive around.
There were a ton of posts online talking about how the size of the car just obsoletes Monaco at this point. Compared to Dave's 1960's era cars and even F1 from 40 years ago - although mostly length, but some small width changes.
Best graph I found:

I guess if they keep adding races to the schedule, they don't need to remove this one historic race? Do you think if they went back to a 19 or 20 race schedule there'd be more pressure to remove it from the schedule?

Other than qualifying it just a social event. Being treated to the best of life food, drinks, setting, and the so-called beautiful people will never go out of style no matter how many races are on the schedule.
