Dead on. Boston! I knew it wouldn't peg me as southern as pen and pin sound totally different in my world. The first time I heard my niece's husband ask for a pen, I wondered how he would write with a pin.
That's why we say, "give me an ink pen" to differentiate the two.
Well he forgot to ask for the ink pen! Gene, you don't sound too southern to me, and I know (says me) I don't really sound like I'm from Boston. My accent is nowhere near as strong as any of the Kennedy clan. Although, our Cali girl, Patty keeps telling me I talk funny.

Well, I've lived out of the south for almost 40 years, so I probably have lost most of my accent. However, when I talk on the phone to my cousin who lives in NC, Bea says my southern accent immediately returns!

Oh, I think you do talk funny!

Well, we'll chat at SF and then we can decide who does talk funny. Maybe it's actually, Patty!!!

Virtual 3 way tie with Midland [first], Northeast [second], and Philly [third]. Not sure why Midland came out first since I've never lived there; was born and brought up in the Northeast [Massachusetts] and lived for over 30 years in Jersey within sight of Philly.

Another Inland North here with a strong dose of Southern. Figures. Can't shake that western New York State base, even after more than 40 years dawn sawth. Western New York is pretty much in the Great Lakes relm when it comes to accents. And, yes, as the quiz results indicated: "Chances are you call carbonated drinks 'pop.'", although in the last few years I've given in to the Southern generic, "coke".

"Your Result: The West

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta."

^Right on, dude!

Thanks for clearing that mystery up for me:

Being born and raised in NYC I had never heard that term until I arrived in Virginia and always wondered about it? What other kind of pen is there besides an "ink pen"?

You know, I couldn't figure that one out either! Weird.

Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.

Pretty close. New York City (Brooklyn actually) born and bred. Now in Northern New Jersey. Almost everyone can tell I'm from New York as soon as I start to speak.
