Default Prince Edward Island, Canada

Our vacation plans are still in discussion. We have a few things going on that may prevent a late April trip, and we're not sure about the drive to the south. Heading north is always a much more pleasant drive.

We've been to Canada the last two summers and both times didn't have enough time to go to Prince Edward Island. It may be our destination this year, likely in August for our anniversary.

Scenic roads, parks, opportunities, and just doing as we please. I've done a little internet surfing as to where we might want to stay. I think we'd spend a few days in one area, then a few days in another.

What I've found so far seems to be a bit pricey, so I'm looking for suggestions from those of you who may have been there. I don't need resort style accommodations, but I don't mind having AC and other creature comforts, and I don't want to be too far removed from the center of any town where there are points of interest.

Lainey!
We went to PEI on our 2007 Canada trip, and stayed two nights here:

I would not recommend this place. It wasn't really bad, but just well-worn. They have cabins as well as rooms in the inn, and there seemed to be a lot of Canadians from Newfoundland there. The floor in our room in the inn had a noticeable slope to it, and was very small. I know there are many other places in Cavendish to stay, which is the home of the Anne of Green Gables story. Here is the inn's website. I would recommend staying in that area, as it is pretty much centrally located. (PEI is small, as you know.) That's my $.02 worth.

Thanks, Gene. My sister has also spent some time there, and recommended the same area.

Do you have it in a can?

(Yeah, I know, "Prince Albert." But I was feeling silly.)

AC? Granted it has been a very long time since I've been to PEI, but has it moved closer to the Equator in the past couple of decades?

We made a day trip to PEI last August...departing early from our cottage in Tatamagouche N.S and arriving back too late in the evening We took the ferry one way (fun ride for 2 hours or so) and then back via the bridge to New Brunswick.

There's a great tradition of Lobstah Suppers...originally at churches and now somewhat commercialilzed....still good! We spent a couple hours on one of the really nice beaches on the north side of the island...recently written up on one of those "best places to go" lists. Of course, Anne of Green Gables and all of the local "fabricated" history is the big thing....bringing in lots of money. We arrived at "the house" after closing but were suprised that we could still stroll around the grounds w/o problem. Imagine THAT in a US National Park
Here are a couple pics at the house:

Lainey, search for the PEI tourism office and email 'em for a packet of info. Ours arrived....about a week after we returned HOME from the trip

Go for the vacation. Stay for the giant blue fin tuna.
