Well, as much as I complain and whine, don't want to lose my job. I don't think I'd do well in a professional environment after spending 20 years in a casual office.

My two pet peeves at the office are co-workers (including my manager) that take the last cup of coffee and not only do not make a fresh pot but leave the burner on so that the dregs burn the pot.

My employer is on the forefront of environmental sustainability and has received many high profile environmental awards. I think that it is amazing that our manufacturing plants have a zero to land fill policy. Even the food in the cafeterias get donated to food banks or composted. So it really bothers me that my "old school" boss uses several paper cups a day for his coffee as opposed to washing out a ceramic mug. Yet when it comes to our reviews he gives us an meets minimum requirement rating on my review.

And give up your ability to surf S2Ki.com all day as our C.O. I doubt that you are ready for that withdrawal.

Lainey, perhaps you should consider just smearing the barrel of the red pen with some Vasoline and then complain about how much your nose has been running due to allergies the next time he picks it up.

(I know that this makes me an old poop, but...)

Food smells.

I'm in a white-collar, academic office environment with frequent outside visitors; although I'm one of the "suits" by necessity, there is a dress code (not mine!) for others as well. It just seems distracting to be escorting a visitor around and run across someone reheating last night's Chinese take-out shrimp and garlic in the microwave.

Besides, it makes me hungry. HPH

I used to work in an office with 6 other people, and there was one person that drove me crazy. I think talking really loud bugged me the most. When I moved 90 miles away and opened my own office, I decided never to hire anybody, partially because of this person. So now if anybody in the office bugs me, I can't do anything about it, cause it's me. Ahhhhh, I love it.

I have a few pet peeves, but this time of the year they all center around the printers and copiers. We go through an awful lot of paper printing tax returns and somehow it seems that there are only a few of us who reload the paper into the printer. Most are content to wait for some else to reload the machines rather than do it themselves.

I take care of the computers and the network. One of the things that I hate is when someone downloads some nonsensical program or applet from the internet and ends up causing problems in his/her machine. Or when they start deleting or clicking on buttons they shouldn't. I find myself spending more and more time solving these problems that shouldn't have happened in the first place. I especially hate it when I tell them not to download this kind of stuff or to be more careful and they get angry.

Pet peeve is my boss - he micro manages everything. Govt project management team for carrier (CV and CVN) modernization. There are 4 of us and our branch manager has to have it his way - no team in his vocabulary unless it was done wrong and then it is alway someone else did it wrong. He has alienated most if not all of the people we work with to the point that we are the last to know when there are issues that we need to solve.
Oh well, only 8 months more to go - I'll have 36 years 4 months and 16 days!!!

This thread reminds me that I'm soooo delighted that I work at home and am in charge of my own environment (even though I make almost NOTHING and couldn't possibly live without the thoughtful donations from +1 ). I remember one of the things I hated the most were the 3 or 4 people standing in front of my desk trying to carry on a conversation with me about whatever they wanted while I was talking on the telephone to someone else. I also hated it that people felt free to eat my food WITHOUT MY PERMISSION (I often had to eat my lunch at my desk and continue working). I deplored the unthoughtful gal who used to bring in leftover fish from the night before and smell up the entire office with her nasty fishy smells. I love working at home.

Hmmmm...can't wait for Granny to chime in on this one. Not too much bugs me at the office, or anywhere else. But I do like that I'm no longer a supervisor - just a technical team leader. I managed one of the larger computer systems in my division for eight years. I had about 12 employees - four of them (I inherited them all) were lousy. I managed to get rid of all four. It's kind of ironic that two of them died not long after they left my team.
