It will be good to meet you. I'll pass along any recipes to Rick. He's the chief cook around here and a fine job he does.

In SE Mass. where I grew up, cretons were called cortons by the French, gortons by the Anglos...
I guess we were "FrenchAnglos" or something. We called it gorton.

Where did you grow up in MA. We live in Southeastern Massachusetts!

The suburbs of Fall River, just a bit west of you, but in the heart of the Franco-Portuguese-Irish melting pot. I miss the ethnic foods a lot -- the French-Canadian yellow-pea soup, tourtieres, and salmon pie, and the Portuguese linguica, chourico, and breads...to say nothing of the steamer clams and clamboils. As soon as I get my wife to retire, we'll drive the S up there and gorge for a week or so!

Florida has its advantages, though...not the least of which is year-round top-down weather.

Ah, Somerset, Swansea area?

We patronize a few of the Portuguese Restaurants in Fall River. They have plenty.

Emeril Lagasse hails from Fall River doesn't he?

Plenty of ethnic foods for all around our area. My mother in law used to make pea soup and salmon pie. Neither of those are favorites of mine. A Linguicia pizza is good, some places even put chourico on pizza.

Here's a link to local place which ships linguica and chourico:

Somerset it is, and elementary [parochial] school in Swansea. Thanks for the link to Gaspar's. Actually, one of the supermarket chains here sells their sausage. It's better than none, but doesn't compare with Sardinha's extra-lean linguica and chourico. You should visit their store on Brownell St. in Fall River. http://www.sardinhas.com/

Emeril is indeed from Fall River and got his early training at a vocational school there. I think his first job as a chef was at a restaurant in Somerset He seems to identify more with his Portuguese mother than his French father, but I don't know why. I notice that he's changed the pronunciation of his name from luh-gass-see, to la-gah-see. Moving in bigger circles these days...
