Default A pause to ponder

I was sitting with number #2 son earlier today. We were discussing the new light I had put in the main bathroom over the shower.
It's much brighter than he likes. my first thought was, well you won't have to put up with it long before you go back to school.
Then it hit me. The next time he will be home will be semester break in February for a week and then he graduates in May.
In all likelihood, there is a good probability he will not be living here when he graduates depending on where he lands a job.

If you guessed the revelation rocked me back on my heels you wouldn't be far from the truth.
It's amazing how quickly the years slip by.

Yep. The older you get the faster time goes. Whoever told me that was not lying.

I didn't realize #2 son was almost out of college!

Yes, the years do go by quickly, especially the older we get. Remember as a kid how long Summers seemed to last? As I often remind my Mother: This is the closest that most of will ever get to understanding Einstein's Theory of Relativity.

On the other hand, if he does not return home for a few years you will have light degradation working in your favor. Back in 1986 I was responsible for laying out 15,000 Square Feet of retail space on one level. That is after the first person handed me the over 1200 page guide to lighting. As this retail space was marketing a combination of products including small containers of chemical lubricants, etc. in which labels would be read by consumers I delved into this project and learned quite a bit about lighting and it's various quantities and qualities. Including how many lumens are appropriate for a given situation. As well as the formulas to calculate how many fixtures are needed to accommodate for light degradation that is caused by the diminishing light out put of lights and the effect of dust on the bulbs over time, etc.

May I suggest that the next time that you are in your supermarket and buy meat from the case or deli counter where it looks so red and fresh watch how it's appearance changes as you move though out the store. Then again when you get the product home. The "meat lights" (frequency) that stores use make their meat look amazingly appetizing.

It turns out that lighting is a fascinating subject and that is why they give Oscars for it in the movie industry.

Jerry,

Consider yourself lucky: you are discussing "where he gets a job", rather than "whether he gets a job." :-)

Guess I'm the eternal optimist. although he's carried a 4.0 for the last three years.
He may have picked up some the "Type A recessive gene" from both parents.
ok maybe not quite so recessive.

Well guys there is two sides to every story. My 39 year old son moved back 'home' two months ago while going through a divorce. We can't wait till he moves out!! I love my kid but . . .

My daughter just turned 44. Not that long ago I considered 44 old.

You know, I can't say I went through any major empty nest issues, though I do have a hard time believing my son will be 40 this year. I'm only 45, so how can that be?

Dave, sorry about the son, his divorce and his moving back home. It happens. I'm so thankful it hasn't happened to us, but I never say never. Life is full of surprises, not all of them pleasant.
