Planting time. Holes made with a drill and an auger are much easier than digging. Planting the begonias I purchased from the local nursery. Rick’s plants need a couple more days to acclimate. My little kitty pet cemetery got some begonias and mulch. Other pic is a bright orange azalea given to us in 2003 by my sisters when Ricks Dad passed.

^ Nice stones Lainey, those are awesome, I love them.

The one memorial stone in my garden is for my pops (RIP) - there is an original stone installed at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse - memorial sidewalk (Ponce Inlet Florida just south of Daytona Beach) and I bought a copy for my home. I also have two small angel cat statues for our lost friends - Butterscotch and Hershey (RIP)

I happened upon pet memorial stones by accident. We were pretty devasted when we lost our first cat, Cruiser when she was 17. I started browsing on line for pet garden stones and found a company that uses PA Blue stone. I've purchased stones for our yard, my son's yard, and memorial stones for other lost pets in the family. I did give the stones a bit of a cleaning, but they could use a bit more.

There is a Veterans' Memorial in my town. It's small, but well done with a brick walkway. My sisters and I purchased a stone for the walkway in honor of my Dad. His brick look similar to the one in honor of your Pop.

Here's where I bought the stones for my cats. Great customer service.

Just put our flags out for Memorial Day.

It’s a beautiful morning to boot!

Very nice, Gene. I only have a couple small flags that I put in flower pots. I also added some new decor to a wood carving in the yard and I went patriotic with red, white and blue.

Spent the afternoon with a chainsaw. Thankfully that work is done. A neighbor lent me his loppers for making the stack manageable. Wow, how did I miss that tool. So good, especially with my new shoulder. He wants a newer longer one, so I'm going to give him some money towards the new one and keep his old one.

I always have a flag flying on the front porch. What is cool is it gets just enough street lighting to see it every night when I head upstairs and I always look at it and appreciate what it stands for.

Finished planting. As mentioned in "shoot the breeze" thread, an auger attached to a drill really cuts down the gardening and saves on finger cramping. Rick drilled out the holes in the back flower garden and in short order we were done. Now to watch them grow. He grew some tall zinnias this year and planted four in a side flower box. The bunnies already ate three. These are the same bunnies he feeds with carrots. They really should be more kind to the hand that feeds them.

He has replacement plants on the deck but is waiting for them to be a bit larger before planting. The bunnies like the younger, more tender plants.

We are finally wrapping up most of the 'spring' yard work. Donna has spread 8 yards of wood chips and planted hundreds of dollars of plants. We pulled out a number of ornamental bushes that didn't work out. We trimmed lots and lots of heavy brush that separates our yard from next door.... using a chain saw, loopers, and a neighbors small chain saw on a pole. Today Donna spent the day with battery driven clippers trimming special bushes and plants. Tomorrow evening I will be spraying 4 bottles of Cutter bug control.... by far the best mosquito control I've found and it kills ants, crabs, mites, ticks, etc. and can be sprayed on shrubs, flowers, brush, etc. I been using for the past 6 years and highly recommend it.

As a footnote, we found a tick on the bird feeder with grape jelly and we had carpenter ants in the wood chip pile. That's nature.

Mowing last night and noticed this fawn watching me from its spot in the bushes. And then walking from the shop back up to the house after, saw the baby bunny on the side of the trail. It is baby animal time
