Our yards/gardens in 2024
#11
Oh yeah, my office is a jungle by planting time I have a rack I built for the tomato and pepper starts so there are grow lights running for about 8 weeks in there. I am adding flower boxes to the ends of some of our beds to attract more pollinators and add nice stuff to look at.

Dave, do you have sprinklers? Do you rely on rain? I've never lived anywhere that you don't need sprinklers or hand watering.

At our place, for our garden and flower beds, I started using the Rainbird drip irrigation stuff. It is very nice and super easy to set up. Also drastically reduces water usage. I have PVC running to all my beds, coming to a central point that I connect a hose to. That feeds a hose timer on each bed which feeds the drip lines. Works out very well, especially since we have long dry periods in the summer.

My sweat peas got blown down last night. I should have know better than to leave them up on the railing. It wasn't windy when I went to bed but Colorado weather is not predictable.
^4-29-2024. I started these sweat pea seeds on April 1st.
^4-29-2024. Michael and I set up the fountain with the pieces in the garage on Sunday. The fountain is running, the sweat peas are getting used to outdoors and the hummingbird feeder has some nectar in it.
^4-30-2024. The wind last night blew the sweat pea planters off the railing, swung the hummingbird feeder so much that all of the nectar sloshed out and the fountain has lost so much water that was blown away that the pump can't run.
^4-30-2024. Darn. I hope the seedlings will survive being replanting.

I dont water the lawn at all at our place here unless I have planted new grass somewhere and am getting it to start growing. We have too much yard to deal with watering. A lot of it is hilly/rocky in places too and some of it we just let grow like prairie grass and let the animals use it how they wish I have thought about maybe adding irrigation for the nicer part of the yard near the house at some point but that is way down the list right now

I love to hand water. My lawns are on sprinklers and plants and trees are on drips. I still like to get out the hose.

We have over 150 feet of hose on two different reels - one in the front and one in the backyard. She has tried different drip systems, etc. over the years but none worked out well.
