Thumbs down Our tour of NH and ME

Here's what we've been up to the last few days....not much! Which is exactly what was needed/wanted.

Beautiful scenery, nice roads, top down drives, small towns. New England at it's best.

Started out on 93 North

After just a couple hours on the road, the roads are great, little traffic, great scenery. Much more pleasant than heading south on 95.
Stopped in a little town diner for lunch.

An old mill was behind the restaurant, along with the covered bridge.

Grand old hotel...note yellow Honda motorcycle in the front!

Every New England town has a white church with a steeple.

On to Maine...zippy/Dave suggested the Rangeley Lake area. Beautiful area, no crowds, gorgeous scenery and great roads...no traffic. Not much to do, and that was OK with us.

The clouds were with us the next morning, but here's a few pics anyway.

Waterfall..in ME. Note the "walkway."

More scenery and waterfalls to come.....

Covered bridge...Sign says VT on it, but we were not in VT....maybe it was moved??

More water

We saw a ton of these signs..

And FINALLY we saw a moose!

The Stanley museum - as in Stanley Steamer car...not open though..

Foliage is starting to turn

Overlooks in Rangeley ME area

We had a fair amount of rain off and on, and the car was quite dirty....so we drove to Mexico to wash it.

We almost went to Canada for lunch, but didn't have the time...we weren't far from Quebec.

More

Old schoolhouse

Coos Canyon in ME....Not quite like other Canyons....

Hold camera at arm's length and take a pic!

erosion

Gorgeous scenery behind us. (still working on those side view mirror shots)

Another old school house in the Sunday River, ME area

Back in NH now. Flowers at our hotel and more water/scenery on the Kangamangus State Highway/

A neat restaurant in the Mount Washington area, we ate there on a previous visit

Another covered bridge

Magic mushroom?

That's it! This area is STUNNING during the fall foliage season. We have seen it before and it is amazing. Of course the hotels charge twice what we paid during that time of year.

We ran into very little traffic, and in spite of some rain and clouds, it was a very enjoyable trip.

Thanks, Emil!

We really did almost go to Canada for lunch. I had a listing of scenic drives and the route would have taken us to Canada...I even had our passports with us, but not enough time...

It's a long haul for so many folks....but you never know....Foliage season can be tough..

Our Comfort Inn in NH was $89.00 with AAA discount. We heard them quoting $160.00 for rooms in a few weeks.

Thanks again for the suggestions. The area was nice and quiet, not much going on at this time of year, though we actually heard a live band on Saturday night, and they weren't bad at all.

People's choice? Nope doesn't ring a bell. We did not hit any of the fancy spots.

We were at the Saddleback Motor Inn, ate at their restaurant (Sunset Grill ) it was good, and at another restaurant/bar called the Clubhouse. Lunch was in Kingfield, not far from the Stanley Museum.

Nice Pics Lainey,

After our trip to the Nor Easter 08 Plant Pixie and I went north into Maine and covered a total of 2300+ miles over eight days. For those of you that have never been to New Hampshire, Vermont or Maine I would highly recommend it. It is amazing to me how much wide open space is still there in this part of the country that is perceived to be crowded.
