Thanks for the help all. My oil used to get quite dark and start to need topping off about 4 months after a change with the regular (dino? from dinosaur?) oil. But I'm five months out with the synthetic and when I checked it I thought it was dry.....it has hardly any color at all. I know that is not the definitive measure of the oil's condition, but it seems an indicator of health. I'll try the outside lab analysis and decide from there. Thanks again everyone, and thanks for the lab link!

I change mine with Mobile 1 every five thousand miles which is about once a year now that it is a "Garage Queen". However, (as I have posted before) I am still mystified about my intermittent oil consumption issue. I can go through a tank of gas and not use a drop and then on my next tank go through about a half of a quart?

I'm using synthetic, drive about 7k miles per year, and change the oil annually. I change it in the fall, and drive the car a few times to circulate the clean oil before I store it for the winter. Just one man's opinion...
