Jerry, was it fun? Was it educational?

fftopic: How's the nice lady (forgot her name, again) who has lung cancer?
The London portion was fun while the Egypt portion was....um, sort of like "history class" some of the time At least we "students" where well fed and did not revolt from wake-up calls as early as 5 am (this was necessary to beat out other tour groups to some sites....effective and worth the trek). TARIK, our tour guide in his mid 30s, had an incredible knowledge of all the dates, names of pharaohs, cultural happenings of the time, etc.

[Sandy is her name, and we hope to visit she and Tom next week; continues to go downhill and is on hospice care ]

I'm so sorry to hear about Sandy. I really liked her.

Good to hear about your trip.

On a happier note, here is our tour guide....in "lecture mode" with his headset. All of us had a little receiver called a "whisperer" so that we could hear all explanations clearly

so....I'll sunset along the Nile will close out this segment

Jerry, do you need a vacation to recover from your vacation?

Looks like a busy trip.

How close did you get to the Great Pyramid? I still find the construction of the pyramids quite amazing, to say the least.

It's easy to see why this one caught your eye, you probably didn't even need a tour guide to tell you what was happening.

How's this for "close" ?

Pic above ^^ shows the only spot at which you can ENTER the interior; long wait and not really much to see, so we didn't do it. Interesting fact: the exterior of all the Pyramids was originally covered with polished granite....shiny in the sun....but most was scavenged over the years for other projects during the Roman occupation. This pic shows the finished smooth surface at the TOP of the second-largest one...

funny that you should ask:

we didn't have any travellers crud during the trip, but now both of us have had a bout of sore throat/ congestion in the following week. maybe the result of all the dust flying around in that environment.

i'm thinking of taking another week off to rest up
