Odds n Ends Vintage Photos VII
#493
Well, it is Saturday and by now you regulars know how I spend my afternoons. Going to a "drive in" and then for a drive on some of my favorite back roads out near Middleburg, VA. In the heart of Virginia's horse country, with rolling hills.
I have long stated that I am constantly amazed at the diversity of stuff that shows up at this Burger King. Today was no exception.
First off in my opinion are these very nice pieces:
First the nice Shelby Cobra kit car
Then a real nice GT350 (I think that I just put them in the wrong order)
Then there was this tricked out Z06
Then this chopped VW?
And this 27 right hand drive what ever?
The most interesting piece of the day was this in my opinion.
Until this showed up: A 1930 American La France fire truck.
The lever controls the PTO that disconnects the power from the transmission to drive the water pump.
Even more unusual than that is the fact that this truck is chain driven.

And I also love the chain-driven truck, but even more so that each link connection has it's own cotterpin
Makes the chain pretty much infinitely adjustable or repairable. Or prone to breakage.
I talked to the owner and this fire truck weighs in at over 12K pounds, he said the hardest part about driving it is leaving enough distance to whoa it up. As the brakes are mechanical.
