Patty, we've been trying to figure out how or why you would have so many hummingbirds at one feeder. Is it because you have so few flowers?
Dave, it may be because we have so few flowers. I have two feeders that are only about 10 feet apart, but the birds just go crazy for this one, right now. They use the other one, but I usually only have 2 or 3 at it. They both have the same attachment to sit on, but the other one is connected to a glass jar.

^This is the glass jar feeder with lots of birds. I took ^these photos on Dec. 16, 2008.

Gene, we're training him young.
Nice picture of the 59 Chevy Lainey.

Regarding the training him early comment. At the drive in that I attend on Saturdays, the last two Saturdays their has been a teen with the combo grunge and goth look (he seems to be about sixteen) escorted by his Grand Mother. Two weeks ago he took an interest in my S2000 so I popped the hood open and answered a few questions that he had after stating the S's "claim to fame" of holding the record of the most horse power per liter of a normally aspirated engine.

As he moved on his Grand Mother told me that he has been some what of a rock and roller and she was pleased to see that he has developed and interest in cars in the last six months. She thought that was safer.

Thanks, Matt.

It was actually an El Camino too! Kind of rare.

We also saw a 1958 Edsel Bermuda model wagon. It was in great shape.

We have two as well, though I believe a third one (male) has stopped by from time to time.

I refilled the feeders tonight, but very little activity.

Patty, do you have a special formula of feed you use?

We mix 4 parts water (by volume) with one part granulated sugar. We boil the water in the microwave to both kill bacteria and make the sugar dissolve. Then we refrigerate the mixture and use it as needed.

The little flying pigs have been going through 6-8 ounces of solution per day lately; they're fattening up for the long migration. I'd wager that some of dlq04's summer visitors stop by here on the way south...

Patty has geography in her favor: in the East, we typically only get the Ruby-Throated Hummingbird where CA gets a number of different species.

Are there actually a couple folks interested in cars of the 50s/60s?

I stopped posting pics from the huge Carlisle PA spring/fall shows b/c no one was ever very interested....

I'm also going to the Hershey AACA show in October! My "high school" boss lives nearby and offered (1)overnite accommodations and (2)chauffeuring to the show Anyone else going to Hershey....LB? Jim? dlqDave?

Jerry, I have a soft spot in my heart for cars of the 50' and 60's. That's what we'd see around town when we were kids. We enjoy seeing what people have done to their cars, restored/modded/preserved/created.

The fact that the grandson gets a kick out of the old cars is icing on the cake!
