^^ I-70 through the Utah canyon-lands.

^^ Grizzly Creek rest area in Glenwood Canyon, CO.
I-70 runs through Glenwood Canyon (a civil/structural engineering marvel) along with the mighty Colorado River, and a railroad. There is also a paved bicycle trail that runs from Glenwood Springs for several miles along the river...spectacular!! Last year's snow melt caused the Colorado River to overflow in places, and destroyed parts of the bike trail.

^^ Pikes Peak, and the Garden of the Gods outside Colorado Springs, CO.
My son and his family just moved to Colorado Springs since he was re-assigned to Ft Carson. Another great "excuse" for road trips to Colorado.

^^ Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, CO.
Thanks for doing all the "hard" work Patty! I appreciate you posting my pics.

^You're welcome, Jerry. The white snow makes the reds so bright. I just love that I-70 rest stop view that you can only access going towards the east. Let me see if I can find one to add.

^Yours in December 2011.

^Here's one I took on August 21, 2011 on my way to Colorado. I like yours much better! I'll have to get some of that yellow rocky view you have to the right, on my next visit.

After I took some night photos at Kennedy Meadows that came out decent, I decided to try it off my bedroom deck on Wednesday night. I got a couple that were in focus. Oh, and BTW the low that night was 62*F. Too warm for a January night.

Those curvey, canyon roads were certainly fun in our S2000's...110+ mph

Nice shots from your deck!

Hey, Jerry, you had some awesome shots of the freeway in Glen Canyon, too. I'll add them if you email me them.

Gorgeous scenery and pics, Jerry. My favorite is the second one. We just don't have scenery like that around here, and right now what we do have is so bleak.

Nice night time shots, Patty. Which camera did you use on those?

Lainey, I used my Canon EOS 40D on a tripod. Some of them were still very blurry. My tripod isn't stable enough. That Utah and Colorado scenery is a day's drive away for us. It's so colorful.

^^ I "caught" the Patron Tequila Express rail car at the end of the Amtrack train going through Glenwood Canyon. I "raced" the train to Glenwood Canyon from where I overtook it just outside of Grand Junction CO.

The 1927 refurbished 85-ft-long luxury rail car is owned by John Paul DeJoria, who also owns Patron Spirits Company, and is co-founder of the Paul Mitchell line of products.
Now that would be a fun "party-car!"

^^ The next few pics are of I-70 carving through the 16-mile long Glenwood Canyon near Glenwood Springs, CO. I apologize for the blurry shots, but they were taken through the windshield of my CR-V while driving eastbound on I-70.

The west-bound lanes are generally elevated along the Canyon's northern wall and pass through some tunnels, while the east-bound lanes remain at grade level and meander back and forth under the elevated west-bound lanes. Eventually, both east and west-bound lanes pass over the railroad at the east end of the Canyon as the rail-line dives into a tunnel and switches to the other side of the Colorado River.

This roadway project was recognized as one of the great civil/structural engineering achievements in the U.S. when it opened in 1992. Special paving material and construction methods were used on the corridor that had never been used in prior highway construction.

^^ Thanks again, Patty, for posting the pics for me.

^You're welcome, Jerry. That canyon is one of my favorite parts of the drive to see my sister. You're photos look crystal clear to me. BTW, how about the railcar that shows the name clearly. I'll post it too if you send it.
