A few photos from Tuesday and today, Jan. 26, 2011 at the Hoover Dam, Nevada/Arizona.

^Hoover Dam from below, with the shadow of the new bypass bridge on it, Wednesday, 1-26-2011.
^The newly opened bypass bridge (which is creating the shadow in the photo above) on Tuesday, 1-25-2011.
^Can you tell which one of us is afraid of heights? We were in the middle of the bypass bridge.
^ I love this photo of Jerry. He makes me laugh.

It was more than a two way tie but the photo instructor cast the deciding vote and voted my boat pic (the red one with the reflection) the winner of our "Color Red" photo contest.
The class is only four weeks long, wish it were longer. Lots to learn. Having fun with it, I may have to seek out another course when it's over.

I enjoyed re-visiting the engineering marvel - Hoover Dam, and seeing the new Bypass Bridge with Patty a couple days ago. With my interest in structures, especially concrete arch bridges, I have been very anxious to see the new O'Callaghan-Tillman Memorial Bridge since it opened last Fall.
Here are a few of my photos from our trip:
^^ The Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge is the first concrete-steel composite arch bridge built in the United States, and includes the longest concrete arch in the Western Hemisphere. Opened on October 19, 2010, the bridge provides a crossing of the Colorado River for U.S. Route 93, linking Nevada and Arizona... The bridge is the 2nd highest in the United States, behind Royal Gorge Bridge, at 840 feet above the Colorado River...

^^ Hoover Dam from the Bypass Bridge..................^^ Jet Skis on Lake Mead approaching Hoover Dam
^^ Patty by Lake Mead. The lake water level is 139 ft BELOW normal.
^^ Red-Headed Duck at the Lake Mead Marina
