Fear is contagious and I'm starting to catch it. I wasn't worried until I kept getting people that are worried for me. I think I'll at least get the cat cages up out of the basement and get a few things handy if I am told to get ready to evacuate but I really don't think that's going to happen.

Okay, there is the fact that I haven't driven to Fort Collins to get Talia's medication at Costco. I'd be gone for an hour and you never know what a fire is going to do. Also I took a shower and shaved in case it's the last shave I get in my house. I'm not scared though. Just covering my bases.

I was just watching a live update on the Cameron Peak fire. It made me feel a lot better and confirmed my thoughts. Where the fire is really going gangbusters is where there's heavy timber, mountains and canyons, and it just keeps spreading in the strong winds that are keeping aircraft from being able to fly to suppress it. The thing that confirmed my thoughts, and was actually mentioned, was that the prairies with grassland are easy to protect compared to treed mountain sides. When I was looking for a place to live in Colorado I was very conscious of choosing a home that didn't have beautiful trees surrounding it, for this very reason. I love trees and forests but I also know about fires after living in southern California for 59 years. I didn't want to have the fire worry that goes hand in hand with forests. My land isn't as beautiful as it would be if I was living among trees but I am not willing to take that risk. I have gorgeous views without the risk.
