Enjoying a smooth bourbon on our porch while watching college football on a 55* night. Life is good.

Somewhere along the line, I lost my favorite little 4 inch, circular slide rule.
I always kept it in the car. It was perfect for calculating mileage figures.
I honestly could come up with an answer faster than a calculator.

I loved my circular slide rule, too!

I wish I still had it, but somewhere along the way, it disappeared.

Trip down memory lane. We did use slide rules in elementary school but digital was finally allowed later at the University. I used this circular slide rule my entire time in the Navy both in and out of the cockpit. I continued to use it for the first few years at Northwest Airlines especially for crosswind calculations. Landing on the aircraft carrier did not demand such attention to crosswinds. The aviation "ruler" plotter I used on transoceanic routes with both Northwest and Delta before the digital age became reliable with internal reference systems. Now paper charts are gone and even flight plans are digital.

The name on the circular plotter is Jeppesen. He was an old Varney airline pilot who made handwritten pages for approaches to airports back in the barnstorming days of the 30s. It became a business and it is now owned by Boeing. Jeppesen is the worldwide standard for aviation charts and approach procedures depicted on paper and electronic forms.
