Adorable grandnieces managing to get outside. Glad they are able to smile since their daddy will probably be stuck overseas instead of coming back for R&R in April.

I was out on the balcony and noticed that my orchid I got out of the trash room awhile back appears to be sprouting a new stalk with flower buds! Yay...I have never been able to get orchids to bloom. Seems this one may be the exception.

I just read an interesting orchid growing tip. To provide orchids with the correct amount of water, put three ice cubes in the pot once a week. I suppose you would have to adjust depending on the environment in which they are growing. But it seems like an easy way to monitor and adjust the amount of water a plant is getting with some accuracy. Might try it on my hanging begonias, but I think they would take more than three cubes...especially down here.

Has anyone here used ice cubes to water their plants?
