I'm pretty sure I'm the only dart player in here. So, here's a little more info. The PDC is the Professional Darts Corporation. They broke off from the BDO (British Darts Organization) 30 years ago to promote the top players.
They have a variety of events around the globe, partner with leagues and other sanctioning bodies to give bids to the World Championship, etc... It's hands down where the top players want to be.
The events however aren't just about the darts. They are a giant party. The players have walk on songs, they dance and sign autos. We hung outside with some of the North American players before the event. We see some of them at other tournaments, or even play them online. People travel all over for these events, just like going to an F1 race in Montreal or Monaco. There are masses of followers.
Here's some shots... You're in a medium sized hall, looking at a dartboard that's 18" across. Even a 6' player from that distance is tiny. It was at the Hulu theater in NYC. They sold tickets to the floor, 100s and 200s. The 300s were closed. 5600 capacity, lets say minus 1500? I wasn't there Friday night, Saturday daytime was probably about 1500 -2000 people and Saturday night was probably 3200-3600, there weren't many empty seats.
Left is Lenard "Soldier" Gates - US Masters N/A Champion. He wont the Saturday afternoon 8 N/A player shootout. He was also the only one to beat a PDC pro on Friday's first round. On the right is PDC #1 Peter "Snakebite" Wright. Signature Mohawk, ALWAYS, dresses for the event. True showman. His clothes on Friday night looked like a NYC Taxi, Saturday night, US flag pants and a Statue of Liberty shirt Even after losing the semi-final Saturday night, he sat on the edge of the stage and signed autos for everyone until he was taken off to allow the next match to start. The "kid" facing us in the bottom left (next to the 180 sign) is Joey Lynaugh from Queens NY. 20 years old I think now, one of the top US players, and signed by one of the major dart companies to their development tour. Has played in the World Juniors. I see him and his father (not a great player) at events around the area. Super humble - I hope he makes it!
This is the setup. You can barely see the board. 2 giant video boards show a closeup of the board and player split screen with the score insert. Also, on the green wall are two scoreboards with the current game and match results.
This is the party atmosphere: The Oompa Loompas made an appearance.
As did about 12 guys dressed as Nuns. The usual people in condiment outfits, dartboards hats, etc... For general PDC crowd pics, click here: PDC Crowd Pics
Next to me was a bunch of guys. In no particular order, I gave them the names... Luigi, Corn Cob, Rabbit, Velvet, Taco, Santa, Banana....
and lastly- Lawn Ornament. Yes, he wore a blow up lawn ornament. Didn't have it blown up most of the day for obvious reasons. But, a few $17 beers and this is what you get later in the evening.
There was also a group of people sitting near me. At first, I thought they just had very bright wigs on. Then, when one of the girls got up with an orange turtleneck and brown skirt, and the guy got up in blue pants and white shirt - I realized it was the cast of "Scooby Doo" I don't have that pic unfortunately.
Lastly, this is me and Dave Cameron - the 2022, World Senior Dart Champion outside the event.
So that was my Saturday. Absolute blast of a day. Saw many people I've known online for years, plus many locals and non-locals that I haven't seen in some time.
Anyone want to know more, just ask.

Thank you for the info and photos! Darts. You are the only person "I know" into them.
Do you know any other Elliptians, like me? AKA ElliptiGO riders. These photos were all taken in Loveland, Colorado.

He might.
patty, I don’t. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one around here. We have lots of cyclists in the area, and my old boss used to ride a recumbent tricycle to work, but I’ve never seen an Elliptigo.

So I had a golf outing yesterday. For Jerry, I played Upper Montclair CC, the past site of the NFL classic, and a recent LPGA event. Beautiful course. Scramble format, shot -3 as a group.
but while there, I got a call from Cindy that the camera shop called.
got home to. Find this in the kitchen…

taking full advantage of things opening up and a decent golf game lately and roughly 40 vacation days this year. Have 4 or 5 outings on the schedule, plus another 6 rounds that we won at past outings. The difficult part is getting everyone to agree on a day, take a day off, align vacations, etc...
We normally start way too late, and end up playing in October and hoping for nice weather. This year, we're shooting to get some in soon.
