That is from Vito's cell phone. He goes on a walk in the evening, usually. We walk together earlier most days. He is not running much but is definitely getting in a lot of steps.

Dave/Scooter, that's impressive as hell. All those nests! Our local rookery is in a pond, most of the trees are in the middle and dead. Are those trees alive? I'm assuming they are right near a pond?

Lots of herons down here as well, of course. Lots of rivers, bays and bayous. But I've not see a nesting site like that one. Amazing.

The trees appear to be dead and there is a river (Cuyahoga) about 200 feet away.

Funny thing about wetlands conservation. it isn't a static thing.
Herons are a prime example. they want to roost in dead trees.
Dead trees get created when beavers dam streams and flood ponds which kill trees.
Over time silt fills the pond and the beavers move on which creates a meadow,
But in the interim of 40 or 50 years, the herons use the dead trees as nest while feeding on the aquatic life in the pond below.
Eventually trees encroach into the meadow and the stream cuts a new path.
