I miss my fridge magnets but my fridge has a wooden door, so no magnets will stick. I have amassed far too many elephant figurines, a fairly substantial collection of Russian matryoshka (probably worth nothing now), way too many espresso cups, a number of teapots, and +1 left a boat-load of clown and mime figurines. I also have a collection of Betty Boop memorabilia. Most of my collectibles are housed in curio cabinets or are on shelves and some are used as decorative accessories about the house. I often think of getting rid of some of them, but I'm still enjoying seeing them so for the time being I'm keeping them all. The funny thing is that I've bought very few elephants but started off with a couple because elephants are fascinating to me and when friends, family, etc. found out I liked elephants I became easy to shop for.

My niece has amassed quite a collection of dolphins the same way.

Val- At some point, I bought my sister an elephant while on a trip. I thought I heard she liked them. She doesn't remember saying or I don't remember hearing she didn't. Next year, another , another, another. So for Hanukkah each year, my sister gets an elephant we find locally made (not mass produced tourist crap) when we travel. She probably has about 15-20 now.

Cindy likes moon items, so besides fridge magnets, we often find something with a moon (or celestial in general), or something local from our travels that either hangs on the fence outside or a wall or display in the basement.

Your sister's elephant collection may do what mine did - explode into hundreds. The last time I counted there were about 200 elephants in my collection but I started back in 1970 or thereabouts with two ceramic elephants that I thought were cute. I have elephant music boxes, little elephants, big elephants and elephants in between. I occasionally look at them and memories of the people who gifted them to me come swirling back. I'd have a very hard time getting rid of them. The neat thing about many of my collectibles is the memory of the occasion and person who gave them to me. Your sister (if she doesn't already) will love those memories some day.

Posted a few pics on FB, one of which I posted in the weekend thread. Here's that one again, along with another one Patricia said I should post here. Walking near the water, on a little island accessible at low tide. Was surprised to happen upon a snowy owl! She's been seen in the area. It may very well be the one I saw a couple of months ago, as it's in the same vicinity. Bird in flight taken with the spray and pray method of photography. I had a high shutter speed set, and auto ISO, no time to mess with settings. Did edit a bit, but pics are a bit grainy.

Yeah, you don't want to get caught in those talons.

Still not sure why pics sometimes seem fuzzy here, (unless you click on them) though my glasses do need cleaning. Can't get up and clean them now. The cat is sitting next to me wearing a "do not disturb" sign.
