Nice photo, Dave. We know that grin well. I, on the other hand, have not yet acquired Donna's packing skills. Here's to many more top down days for all us!

Here's a sampling of the photos I'll bring to the local gift shop. As I matted them last night, I thought "This is way too much work for what I will make on this" I also need to pick up a few more supplies....Oh well, it's a learning experience for sure. Most of these photos were taken a while ago. I tried to stick to photos representing the area. The larger photo of the vessel does not print well at 8 x 10, had to go with the 8 x 12 and the mat is made to fit in an 11 x 14 frame. I took that from a boat and had to do a lot of cropping to get it where I wanted it. Too many distractions. The 11 x 14 is one of the standard size frames people find easier to work with. As long as dlq doesn't see the mat on that photo, I guess it's OK.... The uneven proportions on the mat bug me too. I don't plan on printing up many of that one unless asked. It's more expensive to print an 8 x 12 vs 8 x 10 and I have to buy the mats individually, so I'm cutting my tiny profit even more.
Lousy cell phone pic, but you get the idea. The one in lower left is a favorite. Lobster vessel coming into port. I had it printed in a pearl finish and it really pops. This is the photo a local artist copied to make a painting last year.

I believe matting and framing is an art in itself. I have stacks of mats that I was given but I seldom have used any; as you say, its a pain trying to get the subject, mat, and frame to really work together unless you have the option of cutting your own mats and building your own frames. The only suggestion I would have, FWIW, is to do a couple of those with very narrow mats, so that more focus is on the prints.

PS I can barely cut wrapping paper straight, never mind photo mats.
