Nice photo, wind.
Dave I don't disagree with your line of thought. The iphone photos are not bad at all. I've taken a few that I've been really pleased with; and the newer iphone cameras are improving all the time. However, if the mission is photography, possibly having something printed, the cameras still have a place. If one is so inclined, they can get more creative with a camera and the manual settings, and various lenses, Then there is the view finder. I gotta have view finder, especially in bright light. So I'll keep lugging my gear around....As long as he gets to bend an elbow when I'm done with my mission, Rick is happy to drive me around in a fun little car and we make a day out of it.
Different strokes for different folks.

...Go for it, get a new camera! Have you ever looked into the mirror less camera? They are smaller, lighter, easier to carry around. How old is your current DSLR?
PS both of my cameras are the Rebel series /crop sensor. Not all that expensive. I can really tell the difference in the photos 12 mp vs 24 especially if I need to crop something. First camera was purchased in 2009, second one 2016. Technology is moving quickly.

I have a Canon EOS 40D, Canon EFS 17-55mm lens and a Canon EF 70-200mm zoom lens. Maybe I should just take it out and play with it. Your post reminded me that it is heavy and that contributed to me stopping lugging it around. My RA or just regular arthritis lets me know it's heavy to hold in certain positions. Ah, my EOS 40D is only 10.1 mp!

Hmm. I haven't ever heard of ^that. My sister likes Sony. I'm going to her house today. I'll ask her about it.
Costco has a great deal right now on a package.
Canon EOS 80D DSLR Camera 2 Lens Bundle

I think my little Coolpix camera takes some good pictures, so I use that one most of the time. When I posted my pics from our Canadian trip, some were mine with that camera and some were the +1's. He took our big Nikon camera. I thought the quality of both was about the same. I expect he will take the Nikon again on our July trip to France. Should be some wonderful pics coming out of that trip, what with Paris, the river cruise along the Seine, Giverny (Monet's gardens), Normandy beaches, etc, etc.

Patty, check B& H photo and see if you can buy that camera body only. Then check into this lens
It is my go to lens, and eliminates the need for switching out lenses, unless you need a bigger zoom, macro or something else. It's a great walking around lens. Sigma and Tamron also have their lens in the 18-200 that will work with Canon too. B&H has the camera body, with the 18-200 separate purchase it will cost you a bit more, but money well spent, I think.
Damn, I can't get two links to work.

FWIW.... I really like my Sony A6500. Esp with this 10-18mm optical steady shot lens. Picture taken in new light-box. Will prolly get the 16-35mm zoom, as this is a nice range, too.

I'm very happy with my Costco three panel canvas. The Mpix metal print of my NSX came out great, too but I would have liked it larger. The lupine are an older canvas of a photo I took on my drive up to Kennedy Meadows. My office is really a blue-violet but my cellphone can't capture the color and editing it doesn't do it either.
