Gene, your home and grounds are beautiful. I know what you mean about loving where you live. I feel the same way about living here.
Well, I'm a member of Raccoon Rescue now.
A few days ago I spotted a raccoon watching me from a tree in my backyard. I was SO HAPPY since the great coyote slaughter of a mom raccoon and her kits occurred last year. I really missed seeing that raccoon and so did my neighbor. Apparently mama raccoon came over a cat feeding time at her house and ate dinner with the cats. She's been missed. Anyway I snapped a photo of the new raccoon on May 7:
Early this afternoon I was out weeding in my garden (with Sally by my side) and I noticed what looked like a furball lying on the lawn by my drive. I investigated and it was a tiny little baby raccoon. At first I thought it was dead, but noticed it was breathing and then it started mewing.
I looked and looked for its mama, but she was nowhere near. I ran in the house and called my neighbor and asked her what to do. She said, sit tight, and she'd be here in a few minutes (just like calling 911 
). I ran back out just in time to run off a cat that was coming down the street and Carol arrived with a baby blanket and a cage. She rescues a lot of mother-less kittens, so she has kitty milk and a bottle feeder. We again (along with a couple more neighbors) searched for mama to no avail. Carol examined the baby and found no discernible injuries, so she took it home and it is accepting the bottle. I'm so glad the little one is okay. Snapped a pic before it went to its new home:

No offense but raccoons make terrible pets, they're dangerous and destructive. The raccoon baby will not be able to adapt to the wild. They're dumb as a post and only learn to survive through raccoon socialization as a family unit.
Unless you have a zoo or someplace you can where you can take it, you're not doing it any favors. I know people who have tried to save baby raccoons. It doesn't work out well.

avoid contact with raccoons as well. They can harbor some really nasty parasites that are readily communicable to humans.

^I cleaned off most of the putty. Next step is to clean it, I guess. My teacher is not very forthcoming with needed information.
