This is a "vintage" photo, from the DOT, of the newly finished Wolf Creek Pass summit, above Pagosa Springs, Colorado. A growing number of automobiles in the country were replacing the horse drawn wagons. The new roadway did not follow a known mountain trail, as did US550.

I love those photos (sure sign I am getting old). Dressing good, looking good, and still on one helluva adventure! And we think the things we do today are a big deal.
