Thanks, Mike. No, it's just east of Smyrna.

Some flower photos from my yard. They were taken as an assignment of my Digital Photography class. It was difficult to find flowers that weren’t damaged by the last few nights of hail storms.

A red poppy…

The same poppy backlit by the sun.

Don’t know the name of this flower -- it grows on a vine.

Lainey, all of those pictures are great!

Do you mean that your grandkids slept there? Looks like a fun time.

Nice picture of the cute dog, and first thing I saw was a smiley face in the binoculars (?), too!

The area you live in seems really nice...except for in the winter, that is.

Gary, beautiful pictures of the flowers.

I think the purple one might be Clematis.

Nice, Gary.

What is the class, what lens are you using? I just bought a "Nifty 50" from a car/camera pal. Want to challenge myself a bit and "zoom with my feet." Hoping for a bit more "pop" in my pics.

Thanks, Sue. It wasn't my grandkids that were staying/participating at the re-enactment, but the children of the participants. The kids were really having a good time and were happy to pose for a couple of pictures.

A 50mm is a good investment. I like mine and I'm sure you will like shooting with it.

The class is offered by Mike’s Camera, a large Camera store located in Boulder, CO. They offer a multitude of classes. I used no special lens, Lainey. The flower photos were taken with mi Nikon COOLPIX P7700 that has a 7.1x zoom lens.

Gary, You do well with your cool pix! I clicked on the link for the camera store. Looks like a nice selection of classes. My local camera store (no longer in business) only had one class offered, it covered the use of our cameras, as well as using modes other than Auto, we had homework too. It was most helpful, but I would love to take more classes to "focus" (pun intended) on other aspects of my hobby.

I used f1.2 50mm lenses in my 35mm SLR days. They are very versatile and have a fabulous bokeh at wide open aperture. On the negative: they were a bit difficult to maintain a focus when used wide open…the depth of field was razor sharp and many of my pic’s were of marginal focus. They don’t do well for a full framed head shots either, it’s because of their close-up viewing distortions.

Lainey, post some pic’s using your new lens.
