Observations on an S as a DD
#11
I totally, completely, 100% understand this. The same thing has happened to me. When my S was a 3rd car (necessity due to Ohio winters) it was a real treat to fire her up and take her for a spin. It was an event. Now that I live in the south and don't need a winter car, I drive the S as my DD and it has lost it's magic. In fact, sometimes it is a noisy rough riding pain on the ass. I wouldn't give her up for anything but I can totally relate to what you said.

One thing I've found that makes me love my S all over again is driviing it on the right road. Daily driving on straight roads can make the S a drag. Finding a curvy canyon road or mountain road, that one can get into without having other cars get in the way sparks my enthusiasm every time.
And, Val, you summed it up well - Sports car as a DD isn't a real sports car.

Even though our S is not a DD I have to admit some of the novelty has worn off. I think that's normal with any toy and ours is a toy.
In the beginning we were out riding around any chance we got. We went to every meet activity we could.
Now life just keeps getting in the way. Our free time is very limited, but I don't feel I'm missing too much by not attending all the gatherings (except SF).
Not to say we don't enjoy the car, we do. I'm that I can't even ride in it right now, especially since convertible season is finally here.
FTR it's still fun, we aren't selling it any time soon. Maybe by July 4th weekend I'll be able to drive it.

The S is my only car, but not a DD, since we go almost everywhere by subway (work and play). So I still have lots of fun driving it, but, like Patty, I don't like driving it on the interstates or boring roads. I do have a couple of local spots where I can drift around a corner or two. We are going to a Navy "wetting down" (celebration of some peeps' promotions) next weekend at a park in the foothills of the Shenandoah. That's a drive I'll will enjoy if the weather cooperates!

Dave, I can see where you are coming from.
My S IS my only driver (Like you, I'm looking at something else to keep some of the miles off the S). But my commute is short and usually I take the beach road (US 90). Not much in the way of twists and turns but with the top down it is still a very pleasant way to motor.
I suspect that one perfect weekend morning after you get your new S shipshape, you will step outside, find the weather perfect, and decide its time to roll out the Laguna beauty and go for a nice long drive.
Happy Motoring.

In my twenties I never dreamed of having a sports car. I'm a late bloomer. Bought my '01 S when I was 43. So, for you it must be your age.
BTW, Dave, how are you feeling? Did you go to the doctor?

I understand what you're saying, about feeling decent in the morning and then like crap, in the afternoon. When I'm fighting something, it's the same way. It's not sympathy pains. Go to the doctor so we can get some sleep at night. Sheesh.
