Default Next S2000

I listened to Jack Hollis, Scion VP talking about bringing their FR-S concept car to production. There are several photos on the Web from it's showing in NY. What he is saying is this will be the type of car so many of us like: A true driver's car, balance over muscle, something that excites young and old, something basic rather than loaded, something affordable, something to replace the S2000! He made no bones about it, he suggested Honda had something and screwed up by dropping it. He wants to see the FR-S in SCCA, drifting, etc. It will have the Subaru boxer H-engine. He said the production model will be a absolute blast to drive. It will be interesting to see if Scion pulls it off. It's a tin top but if their target is a track car, it's understandable.

When I've seen pictures in car magazines it's always gotten my attention. Looks good and that the first requirement. I trust Scion to be reliable. I'll be interested.

Better a track car with a tin top. The Subaru version may have a drop top is what I read.

I think it looks decent.I look forward to seeing the specs on this car while I hold out hope for a reawakening at Honda.

No drop top, no interest. If it's a Subaru, no interest either. Already have one of those.

What if its a Soobie drop top? Nothing wrong with the same badges in your garage, you know?

We bought the Subie due to a work situation. For the fun factor we got the WRX. I don't really have the Subie It's OK, an OK car to drive, easy to drive, relatively comfortable, quiet on the highway. We've not had any issues with it. It does do what we need it to, with a little extra fun due to the turbo. However, I hear they can be pretty expensive to repair and hope ours is gone before we run into that. Re-sale value on them looks pretty darn good.

If we ever get another toy, we'll see what Honda comes up with, or we could buy a Miata.

However I don't think this car whatever it will be called will be the "Next S2000".

I think it will be very successful and possibly develop a cult following of its own, but can't really lay spiritual claim as the heir to the S2000.

There will be a Toyota, a Subie, and a Scion version but this car has been promised in some form or another since the Tokyo show in 2009. Supposedly we will see a production ready version in a few weeks at Tokyo's 2011 show. Until then it is one of the most discussed and photographed production ready concept cars we have seen in a few years. It will be very interesting to see what everyone finally settles on and what the differences will be between the 3 brands.

That brings up the question in my mind: After two generations of the S and a decade of production if it were up to you what would the replacement or third "AP3" generation of an S be like?

I would assume new styling? 18" wheels? Would it be normally aspirated? After all, many S owners have gone either the turbo or blower route...

What do you think an AP3 would be like?

I dunno Dave, sounds like marketing to me.
Cosmetically it's ok.
but I don't think there's a sole in the entire organization that understands
what it means to drive a car instead of pointing it from place to place.
