Not quite as torquey or as fast as the Miata, I looked at one a while ago (right after they were introduced) and Car & Driver comparison tested the two of them. I had 3 Spyders, was seriously tempted to make it four. Next silly, totally non-necessary toy purchase will be either a Genesis Coupe or a Subayota BRZ.

as to speed very close but it iS slightly slower with a softer ride. That is one reason I went for it as we already have the hard core driver the S

Oops, you're right. It's been a while since I read that review. It is slower (heavier as well, if I remember correctly). Biggest problem is that it's a FIAT (says the person who had 2 124 Sedans, a couple of 124 Spyders and other miscellaneous FIAT products over a couple of years).

About 100 lbs heavier and 5 inches longer and only marginally slower in all tests that I have seen. 
As to the Fiat comment to paraphrase " This is not your fathers Fiat" There has been a great improvement in quality and remember it is built in Hiroshima
