a new front door, it's finally in
As part of our ever growing list of updates....
our old front door was tired and after two families of teenagers didn't want to play anymore.
the bottom was breaking down, the hinges were sagging and the vertical wood section of the latching mechanism was badly cracked.
So in the garage after delivery.
but first get rid of the old door
hmmm that didn't take much effort at all.
which of course left a bit of a hole, as in 8 feet by 6 feet.
Did I mention it was 9°F. you see this kind of event takes special planning for just the right conditions.
And if anyone is wondering Titan had a ball. Run in, Run out, Run in, Run out, Run in... well you get the idea.
And of course the outside looked just as good.
Now some how I screwed up and had ordered a door that was about 1 1/2" too tall.
The good news is the original builder had done the same thing but ordered a door 2 inches too short and they had shimmed it in with a 2x4 and a piece of plywood to make it fit right.
Easy peazy. stick in that new door.
put in some screws
Whereas the old door was simply held in place by the trim, Anderson doors have these metal cleats every 15 inches.
Attach the trim and voila'.
The outside trim will be Azek but you can't work with it when it's 9° or it will just split.
So 'til spring it will look like this.
To say she was happy is an understatement.

It doesn't hurt that my contractor is more anal retentive than I am not to mention significantly better at the job than I am.

Thats what you want a perfectionist. I had a new door installed in a friends home we stay in when we go to Naples, Fla. The contractor was the same way and the door was hung right and it was the right size. Looks great.

It's natural, unfinished pine interior surface, outside is an aluminum clad finish.
We have an oddball custom stain.
In the kitchen we hired guys who did it wrong, so we'll do the staining and sealing. ( see previous AR comment)
