Very nice. Will you do the restore yourself or hire out?
A year ago, I had a lot of time to do things like help out build my other widebodied S2000. With opening a clinic, building up a practice, taking care of a young one, heading up the Lone Star chapter, being CO for Houston, and life in general, I will need to hire out for this one. I'm still debating between a preservation (get it running, clean it up a bit, restore the hardtop) or a full restoration. I would prefer to drive it than staring at a pile of parts for years on end though. That and getting the F3 racecar up and running is going to suck my funds dry.

Preservation, not restoration.

17-years ago I sold my Gramps '49 MGTC, it had not been touched since 1954. The man we sold it to did nothing more than clean it up, changed fluids, and did some mechanical repairs. This amazing car is more beautiful to me than many of the things that roll off the Jackson Barret auction line.

All original, down to the tires it raced on in Daytona in 1952.

Mine won't be a true preservation. It used to be red and the last restoration from ~10 years ago turned it silver. I think the car looks good in silver and that's the way it'll stay for now. Since it will be a gift for my wife, I would like to make it somewhat safer and more "pleasant" to drive. Being an aftermarket nut, naturally I found some Tokico shocks already . Maybe something more than just a lap belt would be nice too.

That MG-TC is gorgeous!!! I've always loved the classic MG cars.

Will you have a roll hoop in it? Check out Schroth. Their four point harness has the shoulder belts tied to the lap belt so it is no more trouble than a standard US OEM shoulder belt to fasten.

No roll hoop at the moment. I could add one, but worried that it might detract from the look of the car. I've had good experience with the Schroth harnesses in my old M3. Plus I think Schroth is the only DOT-approved harness. Not so with Simpson, Willans, or Takata.

There's no maybe about it. A 3-point or better is a must. I was damn lucky to have lived through this '04 accident wearing just a lap belt. Never again.

Dave, damn, I have never seen a pic of the accident, but for sure, I have to agree, there is no way I'll drive a vintage car with just a lap belt.

Again, sorry for your loss!

I have never posted pictures, although I have several, anywhere before. I guess I'm finally over the emotional aspects with the passage of time. My passenger and I at the time agreed we did not want any fame of this sort. Not that I was at fault, as the other driver was ticketed. I posted this internal shot since it shows how the wood/metal steering wheel wrapped the center post. I was lucky to escape with several broken ribs but no punctured heart or organs as I jackknifed forward due to having a lap belt only.
